“I am considering the purchase of the Sonos Beam Soundbar vs. the Sonos Arc with Dolby Atmos. The price difference is double. Can you explain why the $400 increase for the Arc?”

Hi, and thank you for your question. Arc is our premium soundbar for epic home theater experiences. 11 speakers and amplifiers with discrete surround sound speakers and top firing speaker for Dolby Atmos*. It's much larger and usually paired with larger tvs (55" and up) Beam is the sounbar for people who want great sound out of their tv, but don't want a large soundbar taking up space in their room. Perfect for tvs 50" and smaller, secondary tv's like a master bedroom or den tv. It has 5 speakers with 5 amps. Both have mics built in for voice assistant if you want it.

The increased price is likely due to the additional cost to include up firing drivers for Dolby Atmos. As well as the marketing cost to include the feature and more powerful sound processors.
