Yes you should be able use passthrough. My system is hooked up to an xbox one x with no issues. Look in the manual that came with your reciever, you may have to change a setting on the reciever.

I had the same problem , I had to buy a digital optical cable to fix problem.they are anywhere between 8 to 60 dollars.more expensive doesn't mean better , just make sure it is a thick wire.
