• Yes. I use mine in a 5.1 setup. The extra "surround back" connections can be used for speakers in an adjacent room if desired (essentially a 2 channel "B" speaker option), or not used.

• Yes. It can be used in a 5.1 application. Just dont hook up the extra speakers. The manual instructs you on what inputs to use.
