“I recently bought a house with in ceiling speakers, currently not hooked up to anything. Needless to say I want to optimize my listening experience. Is a receiver such as this good for this set up??”

Definitely yes! I have celing speakers as well...along with floor speeakers, center channel and a subwoofer and this receiver has been the best purchase. I have made the mistake of purchasing lower-priced receivers and I can hear the difference between them.
