Windows media player plays the music using the software from your computer to your sound hardware on your PC or Laptop, set your Audio output to whatever external source your connected to EXP: (Sony Receiver) and make sure you have HDMI or other Audio/Video Cable connected from your PC to the Receiver and you should be able to play whatever you want. Pretty simple really. Just make sure all your connections inputs/outputs are done properly and your good to go. Enjoy ! I am :-) !!!

Note: The ability to connect an AV receiver to your computer and play music will depend on the available connections on the computer. Connect a stereo mini-pin cable from the speaker output on the computer sound card to an available input on the receiver. Also, you can enjoy music files stored on a server on the home network(DLNA) using the receiver. Please refer to this link to know more about the DLNA feature of this receiver: https://helpguide.sony.net/ha/strdn108/v1/en/contents/TP0001221217.html -Sam
