Both connections will give you optimal performance. The optical port will give you the better sound quality however the HDMI will allow you to use the Bravia Sync function. With the sync you will not need to use two remotes for tv viewing, the sound bar will turn on and off with your tv and you can adjust the volume with the tv remote. You will want to keep the sound bar remote to use for Bluetooth or any other device you may want to connect. You will also need this to adjust sound settings. I have a Bravia tv as well, mine does not have an HDMI Arc in but I have it connected with the standard HDMI in port and it works great. Vastly improves the sound quality over the tv speakers.
