It is a strange thing, ordering a piece of cardboard holding the key to what you want, in todays time one can acquire said key in a multitude of ways. But once one is chosen there is no turning back. When your channel of transaction is the internet it is best to be sure to purchase an emailed key because once the choice of buying the physical medium is made there is no turning back. So to answer your question, no you must wait until your piece of cardboard has arrived safely to your home.
