No you can not it just would be a good idea to do so. Make sure you have proof of purchase because I have had a bad situation where the card was not working & you are not able to return or get a new one. It would be for insurance.

If you buy a card physically in the store, just scratch off and enter in. If you buy off of the website, it is sent in a email.
