The black levels on the sony 850d are quite fantastic honestly, I mostly use mine in a dark room with gaming and movies and I haven't had any issues, obviously higher end models with a higher tier High Dynamic Range (HDR) will have better contrast and better black levels, but the 850d should be a vast improvement over the previous tv you mentioned.

It is imperative that Brightness and Gamma be maxed out on this TV and that Black level be no LOWER than 52. Even then they are not great but are acceptable. If you value more accurate colors and need to limit your expenditure then I can still recommend this TV. But if exceptional black levels are a must you need to look elsewhere.
