When I connect a BD player directly to my receiver I receive discrete 7.1 audio. If I connect the BD to the TV and then send the audio via HDMI-ARC to the receiver will it be 5.1 or 7.1. I have heard No's and Yes's. My current TV limits ARC to 5.1 null

I run everything to my receiver first for passthru to TV and it works great - no issues with sound - my receiver is only set up for 5.1 but can easily adjust to 7.1 or 9.1

I am having the same problem ...hard time with the ARC audio. I always have to reset the TV ... Sony needs to fix the issue by upgrading the firmware
