“The credenza opening (height) where I would like to place this TV is only 30.4 inches but the height of the unit with stand is approximately 30.7 to 30.75. Would it be possible to "shave down" the stand/legs by approx. 0.4 inches and avoid wall mounting?”

In my opinion, no. The legs are steel on small silicon pads and if you tried to shorten them you would cause an imbalance of the load. Unless you're a professional machinist, I suppose. Buy a new credenza.

Aloha! I don't think shaving off a bit from the stand would help much. The TV is a pretty big size. Hope this helps, take care.
