Yes, this unit has dual outputs. It can be wired around the car's amplifier. This unit has both pre-amp and amplifier (direct to speakers) outputs. My car has a separate amplifier so I use the pre-amp outputs. If your car amplifier went bad, you could wire the amplifier outputs to your speakers, bypassing your car's amplifier. You could run wires from the 4 speaker outputs of the Sony unit to the car's speakers which should all be available at your car's amplifier, then unplug the car's amplifier. The internal amplifier of the Sony unit will then power your speakers.
