• Apparently, the IR Blaster is necessary if you want your Sony remote control to become a universal remote control for your cable box. I'm still using two remote controls as my Sony remote doesn't allow me to record/play shows on my DVR.

• Hi escobar, the power adapter is your power brick. The IR blaster is for you to be able to control your cable box with the TV's supplied remote. The adapter is black and rectangular and the IR blaster is like a set of earphones. Thanks, -Mark
