The Sony guy didn't answer your question. The resolution, as you stated, is the same (number of 'pixels'), however the Mini LED feature gives the pixels more 'flexibility' in light emission to give brighter colors and deeper blacks which may appear to be higher resolution (i.e. sharper images). This makes the mini LED much closer to OLED in performance (without the risk of 'burn in'). Each system has its pros and cons and boils down to personal preference and price point (my opinion here).
