“Our broadcast pictures over DirecTV for sports, movies etc. is much worse than the LG LED screen we replaced. 4K movies and YouTube, Netflix and other native 4k movies look great. Any suggestions?”

Check your DirecTv settings. Make sure you are watching the HD version of each channel as most have a SD version. For example channel 206 is ESPN but there is also 206HD. If you cannot find these options I would recommend calling 1800DIRECTV and they will gladly walk you through setting up your remote for HD only settings.
