“One use for a new camera for me is to shoot wildlife, including birds. Not sure the telephoto included with this package will suffice. Are there other options e.g., purchase the camera separately and get a different lens.”

Unless you are going for long distance shots the lense will take good pictures Yes, you can get just the camera then purchase other available zoom lenses for close up detail
