• plug it in. the battery is only for back up purposes and not a primary source of energy. on the bottom of the radio is a case you pull out to replace the battery it comes with, but this radio is not made to work off of the battery as its primary source of electricity

• Hi Kate, the battery is placed into a compartment on the bottom of the unit, simply pull it up and slide the tab. You will need one CR2032 battery for this unit.
