“We want to put this in our not-often-used rec room which has a 3D, 4K TV. If I don't care about playing 4K dvd's, am I ok with this? We don't watch many DVDs and don't want to spend a ton, but we do have a 3D dvd or 2.”

I own this model and it plays 3d and upscales to 4k. It also has smart functions like apps and Bluetooth. It also has a small footprint than 4k ultra players. It should meet your needs.

I used mine on a projector and screen and the image quality was very good. This was a good buy for what I needed cause it was easy to move and set up.
