Do you have to have internet to use the player? null

You can buy a non-"Smart" feature Blu-Ray for a lower price if you do not intend on streaming added content through it. If you already have a "Smart TV" this would be unnecessary to have a duplicate on your player.

For updates from the manufacturer it must be connected to Internet.

No, but to stream content like Netflicks you need the internet and a router.

Not to play Blue Rays but if you want to watch Netflix you do.
