“Noise cancellation around continuous loud noises I'm looking at the Sony headphones to be used during farm/lawn work (mowing, brush hogging, trimming) and shop work (wood shop, machine shop). All situations are normally long duration loud noises. Will these headphones cancel these noises effectively or should I look at passive noise reduction headphones?”

This is a good noise canceling earphone, almost no noise heard.

These headphones eliminate the ambient noises allowing me to watch my Netflix movies during these workouts. I think they would work in your situation. Worse case, if they don't work, you can always return them back to the store.

But I used them at a family reunion and they were decent with canceling out raucous laughter and excessive drinking. But I doubt it.
