it has a wide aperture and a 1/2000 shutter so I does well taking action photos. It can burst at 10per second.

I do not take a lot of sports shots so, it is very adequate for my needs. I found this URL helpful: http://cameradecision.com/faq/is-the-Sony-Cyber-shot-DSC-HX80-good-for-Sports-Photography. I had narrowed my choices to the Sony HX-80 and the Nikon P610. This same website will do a very in depth comparison with any camera. Hope this helps
