“How does this mic get power when not connected to a Sony MI shoe? It has a 3.5mm cable but I don't see any info on charging when used on something other than a Sony camera.”

Hi Jake, Sony commitment to customer satisfaction is our top priority. The ECMG1 microphone if not used through MI shoe will get power by connecting the microphone out jack on this unit and the microphone jack on a plug-in power compatible camera with the supplied recording cable.
