“How does noise reduction sound when no music is playing. Does it cancel outside noise well?”

• I would say the noise reduction is not very well. As in if you are listening to 100 dB outside, you'll hear about 80-90 (totally just guessing). They are not meant for noise reduction. They are supposed to provide good crisp music. If you want a good noise reducing headset, I strongly recommend the Samsung or the Bose brands. They are both at bestbuy (I almost bought them, too). But, they are in the 299+ range (unless they're on sale), and I would say it's a different category than these headphones. I hope this helps.

• per my husband, it does not cancel outside noise well when music is on and you have lawnmower, outside equipment going.

• I recently bought these and yes, they are noise cancelling. Bass is amazing as well.
