Flat sound with no power? When the Bass button is not active and there is no power to the headphones (batteries dead), and connected with headphone cable, do these headphones still colorize the sound or is the sound flat in the aforementioned unpowered state?

No that is not the case at all. I think they actually sound better with the cable connected not sure but there may be less compression going on? Of course it's not very convenient to use them that way compared to wireless.

There is no difference in the audio whether its wireless or wired connected.
