When the Bass button is not active and there is no power to the headphones (batteries dead), and connected with headphone cable, do these headphones still colorize the sound or is the sound flat in the aforementioned unpowered state?

These headphones colorizes the sound a little more than the other model. But with the click of a button, the bass deepens out more. And for it's price, it's a great buy.
