We have always bought insurance with the head phones because those type of problems seem to happen. If you don't have insurance than go to the Sony Dealer in your area (should be able to find over the internet) or any audio repair store and compare the repair costs with buying a new head phones and this time getting insurance that will automatically replace them in the first two years (likely to happen) if broken.
