No you can’t. Left is a slave to the right one so that one has to be out of the case and on in order for the left to connect.

I believe so. Audio doesnt stop when I take one out. But not sure if how chat would be and you would definitely lose some controls.

Hi Goofy, Good question! Yes, you can remove one unit of the headset ( either left or right unit) from the charging case and use the unit by itself. I just tried it with one on. It works just fine. 
Once you take one off, it auto pauses. Then if you press play, the one in your ear starts playing.
