the camera comes with a compact flash that is removable. they also have a bigger add on flash that you can purchase. i found the regular flash worked pretty good for my use. i bought an extra battery for my camera mostly because i was going on a trip, but you can get a couple of hundred pictures out of one charge , i used the flash casually. hope this helps.

The NEX-C3 has a removable (HVL-F7S) Flash Supplied in box with the camera. The power for the flash is provided from the camera. This Removable flash is designed to only connect to the Smart Accessory Terminal receptacle atop the NEX3. There is not an interactive shoe on the NEX3 for off camera flash mounting. If you wish to have an Interactive Shoe similar to a standard DSLR we recommend reviewing the NEX-7.
