Just was curious to find out if the remote was actually necessary? Will I still be able to use the controller to navigate through the settings and what not? null

The remote is not necessary- you'll still be able to navigate with your controller. It is maybe a bit more convenient, especially for watching videos and movies.

not only is it not necessary but I discovered i can use my Samsung tv remote to control my ps5.

It is not necessary. The dualsense controller does everything you need. This is just extra for convenience and battery life.

It's not absolutely necessary. It's a personal preference if you like to have specific button assignments on a tv style remote to navigate easily through media. The regular PS5 controller will be able to navigate through media as well so it's really optional.
