When the subscription lapses, the free games become unusable. When you restart it, the games are back. You will have so many games stocked up for 12 months (2 or 3 per month) you won't have time or inclination to play them all. The trick is to download them all and give all of them a try. When the subscription lapses, rebuy the games you really love. Resubscribe to have the whole collection back, and repeat for as long as you want. Yes, you need the Internet to access the PSN store and download the games. After the games are in your harddrive, I suppose you can disconnect the internet. Free or bought, the game will be on the HD anyway.Unlike Netflix, it has to have a copy of the game on the HD, its not a streaming service. You can play the free games without an active connection, but you will need to connect again when the subscription runs out. If the game is multiplayer, you will always need PSN and internet. Not needed for single player games.

The subscription gives you a minimum of 2 free games each month, of Sony's choice. During any sale on PSN (PLAYSTATIO Network), PS+ members receive an additional discount on the games. As PS+ members we also receive demos and other items before non members. An added bonus for ps+ members is free games for ps3 and ps vita, if you decide to purchase those systems later on you will have access to those games as long as you are a ps+ member.
