“can this battery be charged without being attached to the camera? I need some spares. is there an external charger I can get?”

• Yes there is an external AC charger. One thing I learned is to buy Sony Batteries and not aftermarket ones. As is , on Amazon. Those discharge too fast

• The standard procedure is to charge the battery while inside the camera. You can purchase an extra battery and an external charger to charge that one at the same time. If you are a novice or new to this camera make/model, order "Photographers' Guide to the Sony DSC-RX10 III" (or l, ll, or lV whatever model # you have) by Alexander White. It's a comprehensive and easy-to-read/understand after-market manual.
