Theu should be a little above ear level. check the manual for suggested placement.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The manual states: “To enjoy the surround sound effectively, install the rear speakers so that their height positions match the position of your ear. Note • Do not install the rear speakers in a shelf or right below a ceiling. • Do not install the rear speakers in an inclined state or unstable place.” If you’re placing the speakers on a side table and not on a wall mount: Install the rear speakers behind your listening position and turn them to your listening position. The manual does not give specific measurements, so best bet is to install them ear level. After installation you can perform Sound Field Optimization (SFO) or speaker distance setting. (I’m not sure if it allows you to run SFO or speaker distance setting if you only have the sound bar and rear speakers.) SFO plays a series of weird sounds for the system to analyze the sound field of your room and optimize the sound of the speakers. If you want to set up the sound field manually, you can manually set the distance of each speaker and your listening position via your tv and the speaker remote. https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/5034/61411f8c33e85939b6d780f1380ab18d/50345001M.pdf
