Depends on the signal strength of the FM station you want to listen to. The antenna that came with the receiver works great for me in the Seattle metro area. The receiver does have a unique connector for the antenna so not sure how to connect a higher performance antenna

To get an FM signal reception, you just have to to connect the supplied FM antenna to this receiver then change the input to FM. Please note: After connecting the FM wire antenna (aerial), keep it as horizontal as possible. Whether you choose to enjoy the warm sound of vinyl via the phono input, or stream music from your digital music collection, you’ve found a perfect match. Don’t forget the receiver’s A=B function lets you connect two pairs of speakers. You can easily switch between A or B or use them all together at the same time.
