Works without speakers? null

Yes. If you only want to use the passthrough feature and particularly the Bluetooth feature this is possible. At least I have tried it for a short period of time. At first it didn't seem to work but I just had to increase the volume on my second amp. I now have one set of speakers connected to the Sony and then used the RCA output to another amp that has another pair of speakers and a subwoofer attached. Works great.
