I expect that your receiver is defective and should be be replaced under warranty or by BestBuy. The first on I got from BestBuy did not play anything through the speakers and after less than a minute shut itself down. I took it right back and got a replacement that works unbelievably .

First, please make sure you're connecting speakers that are within the impedance rating of 6-16 ohms. And to ensure you're getting an optimal listening experience, please follow the steps below: Check that all connecting cables are inserted to their input/output jacks on the receiver, speakers and the devices. Check that VOLUME on the receiver is not set to “VOL MIN”. Press SPEAKERS A/B to select a setting other than “OFF SPEAKERS”. The protective device on the receiver has been activated. Turn off the receiver, eliminate the short-circuit problem, and turn on the power again.
