Hi vinylguy, We're sorry to hear you're having some humming noise issue with your receiver. This is usually not the case for our receiver nor the experience we want you to have. Let's try to isolate this issue by following the troubleshooting steps on this link: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/audio-components-receivers-amplifiers/str-dh190/articles/00027601 If you are unable to resolve your concern, please email us at [email protected] with the following details: Name: bestbuy Username: Model Number: Issue: Telephone Number: Sincerely, Sam

I noticed that a Sony representative had responded to many of the reviews that mention the humming noise, so I suggest writing your own review and mention the humming noise. Honestly, I thought about taking it back but I'm past the return period already (as it's very short at Best Buy) so I'll have to make it work. I will say, though, that when you are playing the music, you don't notice the hum. To answer your question directly - no, there shouldn't be a humming noise. No other receiver I have owned has ever had a humming noise like this one, and I still own them all. I passed them on to my kids and none of them hum even after 30 years of playing music.
