Hi Frakh, Thanks for your question. Yes, you can still connect this receiver to a non-4K TV via HDMI. The HDMI connections of this AV Receiver are backwards compatible. However, it is recommended to use a 4K TV to enjoy the receiver's full capabilities. If your TV supports HDMI ARC, there's no need to connect optical cable since HDMI ARC output both audio and video. However, if your TV doesn't support HDMI ARC, you need two connections. HDMI cable for video and optical cable for audio.
