“Is there a reason why I'm missing sound when I play a movie (via Amazon Prime app)? I’m using eARC with a new 8K HDMI cable and JBL center channel speaker. Some scenes there’s sound, some scenes no sound. Sounds works full-time with TV speakers.”

Check the troubleshooter in manual and online. Some surround formats do not use center channel. It took me a week to adjust my 5.1 speakers to satisfaction.
