• It plays standard DVDs and Blu-Ray discs. Netflix DVDs discs should play just fine.

• I do not rent movies from Netflix on physical media. But I do rent discs from Red Box. I have rented discs in DVD format and in Blu-Ray format and played them in my Sony SONY BDPS1700. They both worked fine without any issue at all.
