The higher priced model UBP-X800M2 plays SACD and very likely DVD-A (SACD is explicitly listed under the specs section but more importantly the SACD logo is on the back of the player. The rear image of this player shown by Best Buy has the right side of the rear panel all blacked out and a spec for supported formats isn't given, but a customer-uploaded photograph shows the SACD logo is there for this player. If you need more assurance, download the owner's manual.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I own this player and the 800m2 and can confirm what FreeTruth wrote - the 700 plays SA-CD but not DVD-Audio. The 800m2 plays both. In fact I believe it's the only Sony player to ever play DVD-Audio, considering DVD-Audio went head to head in the hi-res 5.1ch music format war with SA-CD. It's too late as I write this, but the past few years on Black Friday the 800m2 gets down to $200 at Best Buy. If you can wait.
