• I have not tried playing any MP4s yet with this one; (don't have any to) I'm guessing since most basic models support MP4s this one might--hopefully. To your other question you cannot operate it without the remote; at least I checked it out and couldn't do it.

• Yes it does support mp4 video & no you can't control without the remote it only let's you turn it on & eject... I hope that helps you...
