• You should really leave it on if you can possibly get records on and off the platter by opening it just a couple of inches. Dust will kill the turntable. But the cover is removable. I tried, though, when I was installing the platter, and it's on there pretty snug. I didn't feel like I could remove it without possibly breaking something, so I left it on.
