Hi Norm, Unfortunately, the MHC-V71 does not have a built-in battery. You will need to connect it directly to the wall outlet for power. You might want to check these Sony home audio system that can be charged with built-in battery: GTK-XB90 and GTK-XB60. This model can also connect using Audio cables (red and white). The sound is output through this system. The V71 also supports Bluetooth, and this may work if your device is compatible.
