Hi Buccmass, We do apologize for the confusion. Unfortunately, this unit cannot be charged, it needs to be plugged into a wall outlet to power the unit. You might want to check these Sony home audio systems that can be charged with a built-in battery: GTK-XB90 and GTK-XB60. Hope this helps! David
