Hi Bethany, Here are the maximum number of songs for each model (approximate):
-4 GB: MP3 128 kbps: 840 songs; AAC 256 kbps: 420 songs
-8 GB: MP3 128 kbps: 1,800 songs; AAC 256 kbps: 900 songs
-16 GB: MP3 128 kbps: 3,700 songs; AAC 256 kbps: 1,800 songs

It depends on the size of the music files you are using. 8 should be good for most people and 16 will definitely be enough.
