Yes, the earphones are wireless. There is a base unit that needs to be plugged into the audio output on the TV. Then it transmits wirelessly to the earphones. The earphones need to sit on the base unit to charge when they're not being used.

The one problem that people may have with using them with new TV sets in the beginning is that in order for them to work with a digital audio signal that most HDMI or 4K TV sets use now, you need to buy a "digital to analog audio adapter". and a TOSlink cable. You plug the adapter into the tv set and then you plug the headphones into the adaptor.The adapter changes the signal so that the headphones can understand it. I know that's more than you asked for, but if I had known that early on it would have saved me a lot of grief.
