I receive audio all the way outside to my back gate, my wife uses them in another room with the door closed, They work great !!

I believe there's a distance range listed on the packaging. I do find interference/static increases when in another room but I have base set up right next to the tv. Perhaps if the base is more centrally located, the sound might not cut out when farther away.

I use them in my bedroom and can hear in the hallway. I start to loose the quality when I go out to the living room.

You don't need to be sitting directly in front of the transmitter. You can walk around room to room while wearing them and still have good sound. I really like mine.
