Yes, this is possible. When I use my headphones I turn the TV volume to zero and adjust the headphone volume control to what I want. I will also listen to the TV using it's speakers and sound comes out of both the TV and the headphone speakers. Note: I plug my headphone transmitter into the audio out headphone connector on a Samsung HDTV. I do not know if this will work with RCA connectors but I would imagine so.
