Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The base is great. Checked all the brands and this definitely has the best base. Not going to beat a 16 inch woofer but you won't be disappointed. If you can, go to the Best Buy store and play with the demos. That's how I was sold on the Sony.

Please try again later.Trevor I've been producing as well as doing live music events for over 3 decades and the main feature of this speaker is its ability to recognise low frequency BASS notes the average speaker (and even the human ear) can't recognize. With such heavy Bass in this speaker you do lose some clarity in the mids and highs but you can fix that with an EQ. Also know the louder you play the music you do lose some of the Bass. I found for best sound 2 of these linked together on each side of a room sound great

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Bass can be loud, clear, and booming. But it of course depends on the quality of the track you are playing. Sound quality often is dependent on the size of the file. Then, if you are playing music from some source other than your own stored mp3 (or whatever) collection, such as a CD or off the internet, sound quality is more likely to be pretty good. The problem with this unit, the Sony XB40, is the grossly exaggerated 24-hour battery life they advertise. I'm lucky to get 7 or 8...WITH THE EXTRA BASS NOT EVEN TURNED ON. I've been trying to find an external battery pack/charger that will work with it. Because, as it is now, battery life sucks.
