I don't recommend using headphones while driving in the city. If another driver tries to alert you of an impending collision with the sound of his horn, you won't be able to hear it (you will FEEL the collision, though) In the country, maybe.

On the lowest setting volume would be able to hear traffic. Anything higher I wouldn't recommend driving and having them in your ears.

Most likely yes, it really depends on how loud you listen to the music. Also if you press them more firmly in your ears, they will seal and block outside noise like traffic. Even if you don't press them firmly in, they stay put.

You can hear traffic depending on what volume listening at. At higher volumes you will not hear traffic. At lower volumes you will.

Hi exerciserswife, the MDR-XB50BS does not have noise canceling. However, we do not suggest that he turn the volume all the way up in such conditions for safety purposes, as this features loud bass. Thanks, -Mark
